Batters Up with Brookfield: A Day with the Edmonton Riverhawks
Big swings, big smiles, and a whole lot of baseball!
On Saturday, July 25, more than 100 kids from Brookfield Residential communities across Edmonton joined us for Batters Up with Brookfield, a baseball camp hosted in partnership with the Edmonton Riverhawks.
For one afternoon, kids had the chance to try their hand at new baseball skills and experience what it feels like to play at RE/MAX Field with the pros.
Creating More Ways to Connect in our Edmonton Communities
Bringing communities together for experiences like this is what made the day so special.
Families from our Edmonton communities came together for an experience they could share, whether their kids were already passionate about baseball or simply wanted to try something new.
Events like this give neighbours another reason to connect and kids a chance to discover new interests. They also allow us to partner with local organizations like the Edmonton Riverhawks that help make Edmonton such a fun and vibrant place to call home.
For us, it’s these moments that help turn a neighbourhood into a community.
Learning from the Edmonton Riverhawks
What better way to learn baseball than from the players themselves?
Kids were split into age groups, with each group joined by at least two Riverhawks players. From there, they rotated through a series of stations designed to introduce them to different parts of the game.
They practiced throwing and catching, worked on their swings in the batting cages, and learned other baseball fundamentals.
Of course, no baseball camp would be complete without putting those new skills into action.
Each group had a chance to head onto the diamond and play a quick baseball game, where they could run the bases, cheer on their teammates, and experience a real game environment alongside the Riverhawks players.
Whether they were already little baseball fans or picking up a bat for the first time, there was something for everyone to try.
A Few New Skills and Plenty of Memories
Every kid received their own Batters Up with Brookfield T-shirt, which became the perfect place for a few new signatures. At the end of the camp, kids lined up with their shirts, baseballs, and gloves in hand to get autographs from their favourite Riverhawks players.
There were plenty of high-fives, proud parents watching from the sidelines, and some very excited kids heading home with newly signed baseball gear.
From Baseball Camp to Game Time
After an afternoon on the field, the kids and their parents were invited to stick around and watch as the Edmonton Riverhawks took on the Kelowna Falcons. The game was also part of Wizards, Wands & Magic Night, with magical entertainment adding even more fun throughout the evening.
After learning from the players just hours earlier, the kids got to cheer them on from the stands and see those same skills in action.
